The bosons which mediate the nuclear force are three types of mesons : pions, rho mesons and omega mesons.

The fact that the 1 } } rho meson ( & rho; ) and 0 } } omega meson ( & omega; ) have nearly equal mass centered on 770, while the phi meson ( & phi; ) has a higher mass around, indicates that the light-quark vector mesons appear in nearly pure states with the & phi; meson having a nearly 100 percent amplitude of hidden strangeness.
